  • This is very helpful!! how long were you out of college for? im a sophomore in college

  • @salexander921 I took the semester off, I would say if your going to have this type of surgery your going to need plenty of rest. I came back to school this fall and have picked up where I left off no problem

  • i have congenital heart disease its really cool seeing there r ppl just like me out there :)

  • @beautifulpanda98

Thanks for watching, I am planning on posting another viedo soon of me back in college now.

  • thanks for the info man, hope you upload more videos, im having a tumor removal that's near my heart, in the mediastium area, so im having this cirgury, thanks for your journal and my only shallow concern is well...what about sex, when you'll think is ok to have it!!?

  • @vladnek

I am sorry to hear about your surgery, and I am also sorry for such a late responce. I am no medical professional so my advice is only from personal expierence, but I would say around 3 or so weeks post op you might be able to have sex, but I would certainly becareful as to not over stress your sternum. Best of luck

  • i've heard that applying vitamin E oil to the scar daily really helps (learned this while seeing a patient in med school with an open-heart scar that was healing really well, really fast!). I never put anything on my scar but in about 8-10 years it completely flattened out, redness gone; it's almost invisible, so they do keep healing over time. Don't ever feel self-conscious; only really fake people are gonna be bothered by a surgery scar. I think of it as a badge of survival :)

  • i think this journal was a GREAT idea, thank you so much for doing it! i may do one myself. i have had 2 open heart surgeries in childhood to replace my mitral valve (congenital leak) but may need another soon. you're lucky you could have yours repaired rather than replaced -- better prognosis. I am 24 and a second year medical student and may need to take time off from school to recover, but I'm so glad your surgery was a success. Did you have a robotic surgery? Any surgeon you'd recommmend?

  • my scar looks just like that but its alot more faded ..i have one other under my left armpit too

  • i was born 2 months early with turragoly aflow.. basically i had a hole in my heart and i was internally bleeding..i had 2 open heart surgeries at 6 months and 18 months.. i spent 3 weeks in an incubator and died once on the operating table..im fine now and i have awsome scars from surgeries so it wasnt that bad i guess

  • Haha! The pot holes... that was a favorite of mine too. My surgery was on Aug 2. I've been hospitalized twice for Atrial flutter. Fun stuff. I think artificial sweeteners set it off.
