@jemlucy A quad twist is worth 13 points. If done really well it can receive a bonus up to +3 so 16. But if done poorly it will receive a deduction up to -3 so 10. A triple twist is worth 9 points. With bonus of +3 for a well done triple 12 points. So a well done triple is worth more than a poorly done quad. So if your quad is at all shaky its better to do the triple instead.

@fatskateman pls can you explain the thing about 3 and 4 twists?

Oh I read about the quadruple twist lift in Ekaterina's book she said in practice her elbow hit Sergei's eye and since she went so fast his eye swelled shut in a few seconds and was black and blue the next day!

gordeeva and grinkov stopped doing it because the quad twist didn't get much more credit than the triple. Its the same way now, that's why you see so many double twists at worlds because the double is worth 2 points less than the triple so only the teams that can get the +3 bonus will even try the triple.

I don't think they're the first pair to do a quadruple twist lift in a competition. They are one of just a few, however.
they were the only pair in the COMPETITION to do a quadruple twist lift.

The first quad twist was performed in 1977 European Championships by Marina Cherkasova and Sergei Shakrai.
