Yes, many of those thinkers to whom I owe my mental freedom were religious, like Newton, a Christian, who believed God made the Earth but who then showed me why the Earth would have formed without a god's help. Or Plank and Schrodinger, two more Christians, who believed God ruled the Universe but showed me how God could not control a single electron. The discoveries these and many other people made, the laws they are famous for, are the very things that make gods getting humans pregnant, or angels whispering to prophets in caves, look infantile. I could never and would never question their intelligence. Their honesty and intellectual consistency are a different matter.

Weird...

I can stand on the shoulders of giants and see what even they seemingly could not.

I'm not against the Creator(s), if they exist, if they ever existed. I'm not against the search for the Creator(s). What blows MY mind is that people think religion has anything to do with it at all.

This is by far the best video on YT. 1.4 million views? A tragedy.

But you're right in the end, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

You make a good point, I just have a hard time telling if it's constructive most of the time, so it makes me uneasy. I didn't mind the fact that he spiritualized the natural cosmos, but he did throw around some pretty loose conceptions of identity, and writing off religious traditions as solely built on fear seems incomplete, ignores a whole lot of philosophical legacy. Not that we all have to be diplomatic, that dialogue just seems like it runs in circles.

Yeah, 13,7 billion years are over and there are still 13 billion more to go. And even if it is not very likely that humanity will watch them pass as a existing species, just try to imagine what will go on in this time. Stars are born and burn out, entire galaxies can collide or collapse. New Planets are formed , maybe also new life... and maybe just maybe, thats in the end all that matters. Our liefes ends, our bodies rot away, .but life itself can not die, only when the universe itself ends.

I believe that was the point of this video, actually. Science has plenty of evidence to throw around, but evidently that isn't enough to get it moving in this society with any degree of real speed. Some are incapable of seeing reason without first having their heartstrings played. This is why you see so many people in religious debates employ selective reasoning. I don't like it anymore than you but it's inescapable, so for the greater good, science needs stuff like this at least on occasion.

honestly, the most beautiful message i've ever felt. i cannot step outside at night time anymore without looking up at the sky and finding my first star and thanking it. for what it may have already done. when i think of my past loved ones, thinking this way brings me more at peace than any other thinking could. i love it
