Henry's Online CBP class: http://artfulgathering.ning.com
Chinese Painting Supplies: http://www.blueheronarts.com

I have just finished this large painting project on two 91" x 48" large sheets of rice paper with artists Florence Wong and Bill Buchman. My dog Cappy also played an importance part in it as you will see in this clip. The entire video will be available for my online class students. It is a very elevating experience for me and I would also like to share it with my Youtube audience. Your comments are greatly appreciated.
This painting is based on the Song Dynasty Chan Buddhist tales of the Ten Ox Herding Poems.
(一) 尋牛:
茫茫撥草去追尋,
水闊山遙路更深,
力盡神疲無處覓,
但聞楓樹晚蟬吟。

1. Searching for the Ox
Brushing aside thick grasses I pursue him,
In wide rivers, distant mountains, and paths without end.
Exhausted, unable to find him anywhere,
I only hear evening cicadas in the maple trees.

(二) 見跡:水邊林下跡偏多,芳草離披見也麼?縱是深山更深處,遼天鼻孔怎藏他?
2. Discovering the Footprints
Scores of footprints in the forests and by the streams,
Do you see them scattered amid the fragrant grass?
Even deep in the remote mountains,
How can he conceal his enormous snout?

Thanks for watching!

Henry

  • I just noticed this video. I am sorry for not visiting your channel for the past weeks, I have been very busy. But as I can tell from this video you have been very busy too! This project means a lot to me, I have discovered the principle of Ox herding image in Chinese Chaan Buddhism, 8 months ago, when I started taking my interest in the way of Chaan, this video is especially important and very inspirational to me and all Buddhists,it represents great reflection of Buddhist philosophy! Well done!

  • @TheBuddhaLight I appreciate your comments.

  • I watch all the videos you make an love them. This particular one I love the seemingly spontaneous addition of the dog. How perfect. :)

  • @mrlundgren1 Thanks for your comment. The dog footprints was certainly not planned. Yes, it is from synchronous gathering that arise spontaneity.

  • cool dog :D

  • @gregoreau Thanks for your comments and sharing of your own experience. What you said is true. I got a fortune cookie the other day that says "How can we have beautiful result without making beautiful mistakes? How can we paint a "free-style" painting if we don't allow us to make any mistake?
