This is the old tune Victory Rag. It was one of the first tunes I learned when I started taking lessons many, many moons ago...lol. I believe it's an old Carter family tune, but I may be wrong about that. I think doc Watson has recorded it too. It's fun to play.

  • Hey Joel, great playing my friend. I've been away from the forum since years. Great to see you in this video. Ride on.

  • Hey Theo, thanks for the kind words and taking time to leave a comment. Yeah that forum is kind of a strange little place. I'll usually chime in on threads reagrding D-18's or Authentics, but that's about all I do there (so all that to say, I'm not sure you're really missing that much...lol).

  • nice fingerpicking!

  • Thanks for the kind words. This was one of the first tunes I ever learned. It's pretty fun to play.

  • Great playing!!! Do you play with a thumbpick?

  • I don't think I've ever seen those, I'll have to keep an eye out for them. I have found that this guitar likes to have the top pulled pretty tight. I'm afraid a lower tension string might not come across as well. I still use light gauge strings, but I tend toward the medium or heavier lights (John Pearse and Guilds...).

  • Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to listen and leave a comment. I would agree this guitar is really starting to devolpe a distinctive voice. I also changed the strings I was using from a DR sunbeam (which was giving me a real thick mid-range) to John Pearse Phospher Bronze, which gives me a very ringing and bell-like treble side. This is one of my favorite guitars ever.
