Apple iPhone 3G wide release July 11, 2008

If this one snuck up on you, don't be surprised. Apple always keeps things hush-hush before unveiling a new product.

A close friend of mine, who works overseas as an associate to a company that works in conjunction with Apple's technical design house, has been nice (and sneaky) enough to send me the final design for the iPhone 3.0. (actually it's 3.01b)

You'll notice the height of the iPhone is noticeably shorter, but the video screen is said to be a bit wider. Overall thickness hasn't changed.

The earpiece has been split up into a wider receiver allowing for louder and clearer calls.

The port to the left of the earpiece is a video lens allowing us to take part in video chats and short video shoots. The first model will only be 4gb so we'll have to wait for the 16gb and 24gb models if you want to take longer video footage.

Digital photos will still be taken by the camera lens still located on the back of the iPhone. Digital zoom is the new feature. Sorry no optical zoom in the works.

The menu buttons down below have been split into (2) in order to accommodate the new video-cam feature.

Earphone plugs will be located both at the top and bottom of the iPhone to integrate better with docks and car audio systems.

Whereas the back and sides are silver on current models, iPhone 2.0 will have a black hard rubber backing allowing for a firmer grip, resolving the issue of slippage as reported by countless current users.

And no need to buy a holster. A pop-out clip has been added in back to make things convenient.

Current software is compatible with the iPhone 2.0 but you won't be able to access video-cam functions until you download the upgrade from Apple, which will appear on Apple's website soon after the iPhone's wide release.

Expect to hear a presentation on the new iPhone 2.0 by Steve Jobs no later than June 16, 2008.
