Maoist rebels struck a school here in the state of Jharkhand, blowing up a polling center for the assembly election scheduled for December 18.
[Vijay Singh, Local Resident]:
"The incident took place around 12 midnight. We came in the morning and saw (this). Around 400-450 children attend this school."
No one was hurt in the attack.
Maoists have increased attacks on railways, power and telecommunication networks.
The rebels are expanding their influence in the rural areas of east, central and southern India.
Thousands have been killed in the Maoist insurgency, which began in the late 1960s. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh described the rebels as one of the gravest homegrown threats to India's internal security.
