  • You should get into Mogwai, dude. Mogwai and Godspeed were always the best post-rock groups.

  • @Meibukan

lol, comparing Mogwai to Godspeed is like comparing Cannibal Corpse to Death. I apologize if you don't get that analogy, but besides Young Team, imo, Mogwai hasn't put out anything of note. They were influential, I'll give them that, but as far as songwriting talent and innovation go, there's oodles of post-rock bands better than Mogwai.

  • @ANTIanitmetalclub

Actually, Mogwai and Godspeed share such a similar spirit that they even collaborated together. Check the hidden bonus track at the end of most CD editions of f#a#[infinity]. ;)

Anyway, I disagree with your assessment. It's fashionable to hate on Mogwai because they've stuck to their formula, but the band has continued to release landmark tracks, especially up to Happy Songs for Happy People. Have you heard My Father My King, Christmas Steps, 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong, etc.?

  • @Meibukan

They have a similar "spirit"? What does that mean?

I'm not hating on Mogwai because it's "fashionable," I'm not really "hating" on them at all, actually. All I'm saying is there's lots of post-rock bands that are considerably better than them. Slint, Bark Psychosis, Talk Talk, Sigur Ros, Yndi Halda, Do Make Say Think, God Is An Astronaut, sleepmakeswaves...

  • I really enjoyed your review.

  • @ANTIanitmetalclub They sometimes evoke a similar atmosphere, are able to render a similar kind of emotionality, especially in regards blowout climaxes. Their music often has the same 'feeling'. Listen to the collaboration I suggested!

You should probably give post-Young Team Mogwai a serious try. Again, they've contributed landmark tracks, some of which I've listed. It's well worth it if you're a fan of post-rock.

  • It took me years to get into this album.

  • if you havent, check out the "side projects" of the band (which are mostly the band give or take a few people); they sound similar, yet different... great stuff.

also, i want this album on vinyl O.O

  • thanks for the review. another Godspeed album i'd recommend is Yanqui U.X.O. the thing is it's a lot harder to get into because there are a lot of slow parts in that album. anyway, this was a very good review.
