No luck about it. He never hit his brakes. What you witnessed was someone realizing they were already committed to either doing it right and being fine, or crashing. There was no other alternative. Life.. does NOT come with a pause button to allow you time to figure things out. You either use your skills and get through issues like that, or you crash. He used the skills built up from years of doing that, and it was a very nice display.

Good control! Ice is not specially dangerous to drive on if you know what you're doing. But most British drivers don't. If my workmates are anything to go by.

I drove to work on the snowiest day, but more that half of the others did not. ;-)

braking is one of the worst things to do when you get into a really big slide. keep control by steering where you want to go, only brake if you know the inertia is going straight forwards.
