The Battle of Grunwald (or 1st Battle of Tannenberg) took place on 15 July 1410 with the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, led by the Polish king Władysław II Jagiełło, ranged against the Knights of the Teutonic Order, led by the Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen. It was the decisive engagement in the Polish-Lithuanian-Teutonic War (1409-1411) and an important battle in Medieval Europe.

Popraw to.

  • @susepoland

Dark card in our history. As much as you remember it as a Polish invasion, it was actually soviet Red Army occupation. Problem is, it happened just after a conflict regarding affiliation of Vilnius between Poland and Lithuania. Poles consider that "an unfortunate incident", as the common history of both nations covers almost a millennium. You keep grudges much longer, think how much hate should there be between Poland/Germany/Russia, if nothing was forgiven (on each side).

important, yes. Smaller, with less income (but far from poor!), and with less real political power, but still an essential and integral part of commonwealth. So what? It was a commonwealth, one country. For reference: Polish–Lithuanian_Commonwealth at en wiki.

  • @arka67

The Commonwealth (Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodów) lasted only fraction of the millennium you are talking about. During its time, it was (for a while) THE MOST powerful (on all grounds, economical, military, educational...) country in Europe.

Sweden flood might not have happened, if not king elector fighting to regain his crown in Sweden ;P But it is a speculation, what's done, is done.

  • I feel kinda bad that other Poles keep saying "We did it all, Lithuania just ran away", and "Poland was more important than Lithuania all the time".

Those were forces of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, not just Poland or Lithuania.

Besides, Lithuania was enormous, if it wasn't for Lithuania, the Commonwealth would have been much, much smaller.

I'm Polish, but when it comes to Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, I never forget about how important Lithuania was.

  • @gegrenas yes, yes and occupation Vilnius is a freind visit.

  • @gegrenas it was a union of two independant states ruled by one king yet each state had its own parlament and a bit diferent laws, a common military but "Hetman" ranks where diferent in name for the generals of bouth states, it is a bright part of history for Lithuania and Poland i dont get it why You Lithuanians never commite to it?
