The Coherer was the first radio detector, invented by Guglielmo Marconi. The Radiotelegraph used iron filings inside a coherer - description by Pier A. Abetti, GE Engineer and pioneer of power transmission. Marconi was a friend of Pier's father Giorgio Abetti and grandfather Antonio - both famous astronomers of Florence, Italia
