An ALIE Project from the Netherlands in Authentic Learning:

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT EXAM (PAE)

The dvd shows the whole examination cycle at the end of a course. The time frame varies for different exams, but in this case it consists of making an exam portfolio, an integrated practical task and an interview. The total time frame is 2 months (portfolio), task (1,5 hours), interview (30 minutes).

The aim is ti give the canidate a opportunity to show his competencies in his field of (future) work.

The teacher hasa no role during the examination, other than guiding (not grading) the canidate in setting up his exam portfolio. An independent and certified examiner from the school examines the candidate objectivly.

The candidate is the centre of the examination. He/she takes maximum opportunity to show the competencies in a style that suits him/her. The industry is involved as expert examiner in assessing the performance, but also in the complete set up of the exam content.

The combined assessment of the examiners determines if the candidate passes the exam.
