The Lowell Brothers wooden boat Osprey underway in the waters of Casco Bay, Maine. Designed and built by Carroll Lowell, based on traditional downeast Maine boat designs by Will Frost (Carroll's grandfather).

Will Frost is considered the originator of the Maine lobster boat style. His sleek narrow designs that slice easily and steadily through the water were often referred to as "razor case" boats.

  • Computer generated design it looks like because of the neat straightening or slight inverse arching in the forward hull.

  • No computers - all designed and drawn by hand!

The original design was in 1948 by Will Frost. This boat is a modification designed in the late 80s by Frost's grandson Carroll Lowell (father to the current Lowell Brothers). We even did the lofting and building by hand...

  • ~~ 28 foot ? What powerplant ? Very trim. ~~

  • Nice!

I had an Eastern 18' boat designed by Royal Lowell, and 2 of the 3 of Bert Frost's 17' one design sailboats that he built in Jonesport in the 60s, I restored both of them. All were great boats.

  • Great looking boat.
