Nice video background for this excerpt from the book. Indeed, Christianity is a paradox. They do not act upon what is written in their own holy book. If Jesus would live today, he would probably revolt. Many things he said are quite contrary to what has been going on since that time, much of it based on or rectified with the religion that is based on these teachings. I am not christian, so maybe I do not understand, but looking at it from the outside the contradictions strike me as as odd

there are christians, both individually & in groups, who do their best to follow the actual words of christ, not the dogma of the institutionalized churches

you won't hear much about them, though, because the churches are much noisier, and have political agendas. they have co-opted the power that comes from the simple truths spoken by christ and used it for their own means--so, in that light, it's not odd, it's expected that in a system based on power & production this would happen

that's a good question, aurora. a lot of people don't realize that these questions/this resistance to industrial society has been happening throughout history (for example, the luddites, wordsworth's poem), but isn't taught in schools and is suppressed, so people think it isn't out there, or that it is "new"

something happened in the 60s where it broke into the mainstream. it was suppressed by the powers that be in more ways than one. but it's rising again, with even greater fire.

I wonder, why did it not lead to anything back then. What broke the spell, what stopped people thinking along these lines. Why are there so few in the years after that that thought in these ways and why did it take 20 years until some more people talk the same ways again?
