This is me on final and landing a Boeing 747SCA complete with attached Orbiter into Cranfield, Milton Keynes near where I live. I landed fast and heavy, but deliberately dragged it in low over the threshold as I wanted to use as little runway as possible to stop but without using reverse thrust. As you can see I made it but with not much to spare! Flaps 25 on final and touchdown, can't remember landing speed but around 160kts I think.

NOTE: Due to a bug in FSX, the spoilers are shown deployed as the aircraft slows to a stop but in fact I retracted them as speed dropped below 60kts.

Flight Simulator X SP2. Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+, 4GB DDR2 800 RAM, GeForce 8500 GT 512MB video, Cougar Pro Speed Link joystick. Video captured with FRAPS.

  • Use reverse thrust pressing and holding F2 and to disengage it bring the throttle up and down a bit.

  • @wvhb44beardog Yep, but if you read the full description I wanted to land and stop without the use of reverse thrust. In real life an aircraft must be able to stop on a runway without reverse thrust to obtain a landing certificate. However, a 747SCA into Cranfield? Not likely...

  • how can i stop that was, with the 747, i go 100 knots and i fly off the runway, i engaded airbrakes, flaps brakes, and rev. thrust, but my engins sounded like i turnd them onto full and i went flying off the runway....

  • I had similar problems flying the Airbus A321 that's bundled wih FSX. My advice if you're using the standard 747 is to ensure your speed is correct on approach, arm the autospoilers to deploy on touchdown. Your engines will sound like they're spooling up if you use powered (as opposed to idle) reverse thrust on landing. Also make sure you flaps are at full (or 1 notch below) just prior to touchdown. Of course, best to get a payware 747 like the PMDG one. Much better! Thanks for watching!

  • Oh almost forgot - set autobrakes to 2 or 3 (never RTO!) for fullest braking effect.
