The vast majority of German soldiers killed in the war died on the eastern front fighting the Soviets.
America barely dented the German war machine, the Russians tore it apart.

The right to protest was earned by the sweat and blood of protesters not soldiers.
Back in the day any man who dared to say something against the status-quo or god-forbid go on strike could expect to be murdered by Pinkertons or police and have his family shot while the state looked the other way. It took a lot of fighting to change this
and soldiers were almost always on the states side of things.
Just look at the Battle of Blair Mountain.
