this movie is excellent but avatar is 20 times better. basically because the navi and pandora are way more fascination than samurai and japan. navi are better than humans actually.

The Last Samurai is inspired of a true story, the one of the French infantry officer Jules Brunet who left the army to fight alongside the shogunate forces during the Boshin War.

Yes but it's been done so many times already. Even Pocahontas had the same basic plot. Avatar wasn't all that special; more of a CG extravaganza if nothing else. But freaking good CG. Even though the whole idea of the plot for Last Samurai was pretty absurd, it was decently enjoyable, and to some extent emotional.

史実の話じゃないのがちょっと残念だけど、結構楽しめた映画では あるな～
刀や戦争のイメージが先行しちゃうのはしょうがないのかな～？と 思ったり・・・

Such a beautiful movie. Samurais are awesome haha. One of the only movies to make me cry.
