The song was inspired by and dedicated to Marsha P. Johnson, a New York drag queen/gay activist whose body was found in the Hudson River in 92 (ruled suicide, but questionable). "The Johnsons" part of the band name comes from her.

First and foremost, im actually a hip-hopper. Not that i'm superficial, i know my roots and i'm open to other genres, mostly black music like reggae or 60s/70s soul, but for a few months i'm really diggin indie and singer/songwriter music. i stumbled over antony and the johnsons by chance and was immediatley astonished by his powerful voice and the feelings he's teansporting. I'm practically trying not to cry everytime i hear this song, great singer and great message!
