I've gotta say, that is soooo true! Despite of that, please be aware of pickpockets, Beijing's developing quite well, but majority of the residents are still having an average salary at 200-300 US dollar, theives do exist under any circumstances.

There are poor people anywhere i think
as long as there are people, there will be a gap between the richest and the poorest i guess
China is not an MEDC so the poor people problems probably still quite bad
but dunno, when i was there, i felt safe :p
anyway i still reli love Beijing
