A pilot experiment only... this is the very first time I even tried this. You can expect to get more "collection efficiency" with insulated hose and tighter connections of course.
And of course, at the end.... I show how easy it is to make a math error and get all excited.
This experiment, like every other one I have conducted with the FryDaddy setup, gives me a result of about 0.5 microLiters of water boiled to steam, per Joule of input energy, in the steady state.
In other words, about 1/5 to 1/6 of Rossi's claimed efficiency.
The Harvard Trip Balance is a neat bit of kit. You can "set" it by taring it up as I have done, then when the sample pan reaches that mass, within a few milligrams, the balance "trips" quite definitely -- the sample pan goes down -- and the moment of tripping can be recorded fairly accurately. This allows a reasonably accurate measurement of when a particular mass increment is reached, and thus allows calculation of mass output flow rate. I don't use it that way here but next time I may.
