At the heart of Sequoia National Park the largest trees on earth are found, including General Sherman, which holds the world record for the most massive living thing.
The Giant Sequoia trees are the largest living things on earth, because they are among the tallest and are the biggest in width. The Coastal Redwoods of California are taller than the Giant Sequoias. However, the sequoia trees have much larger trunks and branches in width.
The sequoia tree has both male and female cones. The cones don't just fall off the tree, the Douglas squirrel eats the fleshy part of the cone and leaves the seed. When they eat the fleshy part they drop the seed from their mouth.
A fire in the park clears off everything on the ground. The heat rises and it dries out the top of the tree and the cones fall and the animals don't have to do the work.
For the seedling to grow it needs plenty of sunlight and plenty of leaves around it. It is very hard for the seedling to get sunlight when it has so many very big trees surrounding it and blocking it.

  • More important than light would be access to water. They love it. In all Giant Sequoia groves snow melt, underground springs and other forms of natural irrigation allow this species to continue on after 200,000,000 years.:)

  • That's amazing! I never realised how big they were to be honest. It's hardly a tree at all, more some giant monument! Beautiful nonetheless.

  • El eucalipto de Tasmania, Eucalyptus regnans los 95-100 metros por 7 de diámetro, aunque se cita que en 1872 cayó un ejemplar de 132 metros.

  • @tkuliocowske You don't want forests to be tripled in size? Why not?

  • @RobertMOdell what? haha im sorry you feel that way

  • After man is gone, it would be pretty awesome if a meteor would come and vaporized all the animals and plants on the earths surface. Only, too bad we wouldn't be able to see it happen.

  • @boys0fsummer1 Wrong, I would triple the size of forests so that I could watch even more trees fall ! Awesome and beautiful to behold.

  • @boys0fsummer1 We will never run out of time. Time is eternal.

  • @RobertMOdell

these trees take decades, even hundreds of years to grow, and youd want to cut one down just to see it fall. You Sir, are the perfect example of what is wrong with humanity.

  • @BoostedInline6

its people like him that will destroy every forest. They can't see past their own noses.
