Beautiful, complex fractal-like nanocrystals selfassembling inside a Transmission Electron Microscope.

Filmed live by electron microscopist and nanoresearcher Lionel Cervera Gontard from Center of Electron Nanoscopy at Technical University of Denmark.

  • what is the song? i might recognize it in a minute..

  • @otacon451 Its a danish artist - a genious :) (not me)

  • do patterns of crystal growth in his and other systems like them grow in this way, in terms of thier pattern, have any relation to their electrical properties, ie, the particles electro-magnetic force influencing the fractal pattern, maybe the electrical conductivity of an object dynamically changing its charge by growth manipulates a field and therefore alters the pattern "on the fly"?

im no scientist or academic (failed most subject) so go easy if im being silly.

    just a thought.

  • @srosefx that could be the case... the electronic properties can well relate to how the particles bind together, even without using external fields, currents and so on... charging effects are inavoidable in an experiment like this because an intense electron beam is used to make the images. That is not a silly question at all!... im not sure i answered it though?

  • Prepare for some crazy TEM footage soon; we cant upload it yet, but it wont be long!!!

  • There is a group in the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras that grows similar structures in silicon. They can see the structures in micrometer size!

  • Nice!... these structures, however are of order 100 nm, and the particles perhaps 5-10 nm.

  • It almost looks fractal

  • This is why science hasn't found god he is busy making cool crystals to surf on.

  • @ActiveStorage sorry not find but look for the cause*

  • there got to be something fundamental in the structure of space itself, that produces all these observable phenomena, yet we tend to take subjective\objective approach in science and find the cause of the phenomena within the phenomena itself. i think it's one big misconception of reality

  • @hugestomper looks like biological structures..

  • @hugestomper I thought the same thing.
