In the past month, prices of vegetables in Kisii town have sky rocketed, forcing some traders to abandon the vegetable business. A sack of sukuma wiki for instance, sold at 300 shillings in December. Currently a similarly sized sack goes for 2,000 shillings.

Here we go again, it is that part of the year again where rains fails and now food shortage looms. Vegetables such as sukuma wiki do not need rain, a bit of irrigation is all it takes. How a hot desert country like Israel never lacks food is beyond me. Why can't we learn from what they do?
