Custom built weapon.
- The Dart Gun fires darts that have been dipped in a Radscorpion's poison gland. A hit (anywhere on a target's body) will instantly cripple the target's legs, making it extremely useful against fast melee opponents like Deathclaws, Yao Guai and Sledgehammer wielding Super Mutants. It seems to be less useful against Giant Radscorpions, even though the gun does cripple their legs -- presumably the idea is that they are immune to their own poison.
- The poisonous darts inflict decent damage on the target for 8 seconds. The poison is ineffective against non-organic enemies like robots. Also, poison damage affects stack; more darts in the target at once means faster loss of health.
- The Dart Gun's 6 base damage is affected by weapon durability; the poison and leg crippling effects are unaffected. Due to this fact, relative condition of the weapon will be irrelevant for most players, and multiple copies of the schematic -- especially if paid for -- might not be worth the effort to collect.
- The Dart Gun is best used for sneak attacks.
- Low level players may find this critical for fighting Yao Guai and Deathclaws. With their legs crippled, they cannot use their pounce attacks.
- Great for players with a stealth boy, or the silent running perk.
- The critical damage bonus for humanoids is presumed to be 76 (12 64 poison), or 82 (with the better criticals perk). Note: don't expect a big critical bonus for robots, monsters, or super mutants.
- Sneak attack critical head shots will silently 1-hit kill most Raiders and Ghouls. Add in the 64poison/8sec effect that follows and one shot can total for as much as 160 damage.
- The Dart Gun is silent, and functions the same as a silenced 10mm pistol in that when you miss you often don't alert any enemies, so you can feel pretty safe setting up several long range 50% V.A.T.S. head shots, even if the first one misses it won't alert the enemy and ruin your sneak attack for the next.
- The Dart gun can be used to easily stop Deathclaws and Behemoths in their tracks, allowing you to finish them off (with a different weapon) while their legs are crippled.
- Darts are typically sold by most weapons dealers. Lucky Harith is always a good bet for 10 darts at a time. After making friends with the vampire family, Karl of Meresti Trainyard will often sell 100 darts at a time.

at least i have a place to sleep and put my bobbleheads, but great playthoughs and instruction videos. man just awesome.

Of course its not, its completely optional. Its good for bad karma playthru, but I personally I prefer the good playthru and killing Mr. Burke in the beginning. See one of latest videos, Fallout 3 Replay - 1. Megaton.

i just finished this game but i haven't even seen one of those deathclaws....the last time i fought against them was in fallout 2
