The free standing Pilates roll down movement increases flexibility and strength in the spine. It promotes the use of the abdominals to protect the spine. Tension is released from the back and is a very relaxing movement on the whole. This exercise can also be performed on a straight back chair.
The roll downs can also be performed against a wall. Make sure your feet are parallel and keep your neck and relaxed until you are in the fully upright position. Repeat several times.
