I was thinking the same thing. These belts are all too important to simply ignore until broken. A little preventative maintainance goes a long way. Check for proper adjustment periodically and spray them with some belt dressing to keep them clean and gripping well. Plus is won't hurt to have spare belts on hand too just in case.

I broke a sheer pin the other day. I replaced both and now started it up but only one side just turns only when I go to pick up snow? They both turn otherwise?? Help!!

Don't forget to mention that pulling the spark plug (or just the wire) makes it less likely to start while you got your fingers in there. ;)

Great videos, graphically descriptive, good camera work, plenty of clear info. One question:
I've seen some guys turn their snow blower so it rest into the auger covers. I am afraid to do the same because I am afraid the oil in the engine may spill or reach internally where it shouldn't. Is this practice okay or I can ruin my engine?
Thanks in advance!

@arirang777 won't ruin your engine, watch for fuel leaking out the fuel tank though when it's flipped over on its auger

My old Ariens has a plastic cowling over the belts. The price for this piece is around $100. Any ideas on a lower cost solution??

@whitegreg56 the plastic cowlings are usually cheaper than that, check ebay
