Ads and break bumpers for Disney's Dumbo, broadcast on TVS on Good Friday, 13th April 1990.

I noticed there's no TVS ident - it just cuts from the adverts in to 'Disney Presents'.

Adverts are: Pizza Hut, Health Education Authority anti-smoking, Smiths Squares crisps, Grasshopper lawn feeder, Kellogg's Frosties, Paultons Park, The Pine Store, milk (Are you getting enough?), Coca-Cola (Generations), Lego M-Tron, McDonalds Happy Meals (McRobots), Shreddies and Courts Superstores.

Thanks to Robin Carmody for the heads-up on the date!

  • What VCR was used to record this?

  • The reason there is no TVS ident - or TVS logo on the programme slide was because of Channel TV were also taking the broadcast.

  • @edie221 Yep.

Between 1958 and 1981 TV in the south of England was from a company called Southern. Between 1982-1992 we had Television South (generally known as TVS).

Meridian Broadcasting took over the franchise in 1993, but since 2001 it's been hidden under the guide of the ITV1 branding with ITV plc as owners. No reference to Meridian is ever made on air.

Personally I hate this and think it should go back to being regionalised with local content and local news by local franchises again.

  • What?! No TVS Ident before disney ident start? Weird.

  • This is definitely Good Friday, 13th April 1990.

  • haha! things were really screwed up back in thoses days lol! The dumbo ad for the film was no help and toatally well.....crap lol and then there's an add on stating "how much milk do 'you' drink? do you have enough?" (that your body needs.................and straight after that there's a cheesey ad on how great Coak is LOLOLOL!

  • It is great to revisit one of Coca Cola's best loved adverts. If the original advert was from 1971 then these adverts are from April 1991. Who was the girl in the milk advert and the artist and song in the Grasshopper lawn feeder advert? The Runaway Mine train is one of my favourite memories of regular theme parks such as Thorpe Park and Chessington in my younger days. The last time I have been to a theme park was in August 2005.
