This album was given to me for my birthday in late September 2001. 9/11 was barely two weeks old. I had seen the Pentagon burning first hand--missed seeing the plane itself by less than ten seconds. And it all fucked me up so badly that I used to just drive the country roads of Northern Virginia for hours, aimlessly, listening to this album--trying to make sense of the unfathomable tragedy I had witnessed. Gilian's haunting voice and David's dissonant guitar helped me cope somehow.

I personally think it is great that the song touched you in a way that enabled you to make a powerful connection from it to the footage you used with it, as a musician myself I feel you have done a great job, inspiring thought is what it's all about.

Saw her live yesterday, she performed revelator and oh it was brilliant!

You nailed it, buddy. The footage transported me to my childhood in the 50's so thoroughly it was creepy. You are a fine artist.

@terr0rkitten The polio kids seem to be from St. Louis in some outbreak in the late 40s or 50s I'd guess

what archive did you get these from?

don't look at the video... close your eyes and see the history. "she" is america and It's about our history -- for better or worse. check 1850 to 1910 if you don't believe it.

bingo

you are taking the documentary footage provided out of context...depriving people of medicine had nothing to do with religion in the '20's, it had everything to do with poverty and slow advances in medical achievements.

Thank you for looking and leaving a comment. The footage was never su[pposed to be a statement about the song or vice versa. I love the song and just wanted some interesting footage that kind of went with the mood of the song not the words.
It's more about sharing the song and I thought it better to have something moving rather than staring at an album cover.
The option is always there to look away and enjoy the music alone if the footage offends any.
Cheers, Phil.

Ta. Fascinating choice of video. Do you know where , when it is? Who filmed it? Source of film? etc?? I like it.
The lyrics, musicianship+ vocal authenticity + historical film footage is spellbinding.

@Kaspiannlago Thanks for your kind words. Unfortunately I'm not able to give much detail, I pretty sure this is an amalgam of about 3 sets of footage that I downloaded from a public archive. I'm sure one was on old age and one of the others on child poverty. Sorry for being so vague as it was over 2 years ago.
