  • why does this train has an electric engine and a diseal? shouldnt it only need a dieasal engine??

  • They need the electric to run into NYC, no diesels allowed in the tunnel.

  • so they hace a deisel locomotive on the front and and electric locomotive looked like a aem7 why just the electric locomotive and a cab car on the other end

  • Need electric power for NEC and diesel power for Atlantic City Line

  • 1 diesel locomotive leads and electric loco push train?

  • A little more than ten miles to the south, the train will leave the electrified NEC and head east on the non-electrified Atlantic City Line. The push-pull arrangement allows them to run into the tunnels to NYC where diesels are not allowed and then to quickly change over for the run to Atlantic City.

  • @Bqrufz1 P40DCs do not have third rail shoes, The Dual mode P32AC-DM does. Also Penn Station does have third rail. All Long Island Railroad trains, and some Amtrak trains use the Third Rail System.

  • acse are only on friday saturday and sunday. also if the p40s are amtraks then they most likely also have 3rd rail pick up too bad no 3rd rail in penn station

  • acse are only on friday saturday and sunday.

  • sorry 1 more diesel. also the consist switches from electric to diesl/vice versa at frankford junction the aces trains/ bi levels do not go to philadelphia ' 30 th street staion. the only ones that do are the regular service njt diesel powered train with comet cars.

  • the atlantic city line does not have catenary... in order for the train to accelerate at the same pace as the other njt trains they would need atleast 1 more loco also the diesels are geared for 102 not 125 like the alp 44

  • Nice catch!!!

  • @SgtDonuts going to AC the P40 pulls the train from NYC or AC to frankford junction philly,PA and from frankford junction to NYC or AC the NJT ALP-44 pulls the train so pretty much if you are on the NEC going southbound you will see a diesel P40 going northbound you will see a NJT ALP-44

  • Wow. A diesel and an electric on the same train. Pretty cool. I'd like to go see that someday.

  • Actually 4800 is ex-Amtrak P40DC #800. NJT never bought P42s.

  • Great video! Also I'd recommend to tweak the title from P42 to P40BH. NJT has no P42's.
