Here Pintura, a registered Paso Fino, is nine months pregnant and twelve years old. Trainer is Dacodah Herkenhoff of San Acacia, NM.
When we got her over a year ago, she mostly bucked, reared and bolted when anyone tried to ride her. Her previous owner had tried to use her as a brood mare from age five through eleven. We got her after the owner died and half a year later she gave birth to her first foal. (See Youtube video of the birth at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3Dlt_UCu3I).
Now she is expecting her second foal exactly a year after the birth of her first one. Sire is Vikingo de Los Angeles, another Classic Fino from Colombian stock.
We are giving Pintura plenty of exercise, mostly longing but also light riding. Although she is being ridden with just a halter in this video, now she is doing well with a full cheek snaffle with rubber bars. We use the mildest bit possible because she only bucks and rears out of fear. A harsher bit is only useful with a horse that bucks and rears out of disrespect, which is not her problem. Her ground manners are excellent and she doesn't spook. Her only fear is of being ridden, so we wonder if she was abused when someone first tried to break her to ride.
Bless her heart she was pregnant! Lol
