On Saturday, May 26, 2012, members of the Opera Company of Philadelphia Chorus and Orchestra visited IKEA Philadelphia and showed DIY shoppers that in the IKEA Marketplace, you can find what you need to make a dresser, a bedframe -- or beautiful music by Mozart!
Opera Company of Philadelphia Composer in Residence Lembit Beecher arranged the famous Papageno-Papagena duet from The Magic Flute for piccolo and found percussion.
The performance is one of 1,000 Random Acts of Culture taking place nationally during a three-year period funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Knight Foundation's Random Acts of Culture bring artists out of the performance halls and into the streets and our everyday lives. Hmm..pretty sure that I briefly knew the tall gal toward the end in the pink shirt, holding up the sign. She was big on the local Fringe Festival so this doesn't completely surprise me. She was pretty cool, probably still is. I can't recall her name though - been too long.

Delightful. Amazing performance, great production quality. Percussionists performed wonders with the odds and ends they used. Loved the smiles from everyone! Bravo Random Acts!

Fantastic! This is one of my favorite arias of all time, and this version is fabulous. I love the looks of surprise and delight on the shopper's faces. I'm driving down to Philadelphia in April to see this company's performance of 'Die Zauberflote', and I can't wait! See you all opening night :)
