I was hoping that he'll say, "That I went to this narcissist joy for feeling good about myself to instead realizing I should focus on who I am helping and realized that I just didn't give a fuck and kind of wanted my money back."

@Geraldoatlarge42 Power, authority, to curry favor with their imaginary friend, and some to get access to children. Don't get me wrong there are clergy that want to help people, soldiers that want to save the world, and cops that want to uphold the law.........but then there is the majority. When you have a mega-church hocking self -help merchandise and faith healing, it is obvious you are not in it to help. These are for profit corporations.

@SIMKINETICS more like few. "Generally, generalizations are not valid." So you just invalidated your own statement. Bananas are yellow, leaves are green, and the sky is blue. One can only get so specific with a few hundred characters. Generalizations are representative of a majority. Not always, but in many cases.

@Mahoivlich As a secularist, I must protest! Some ministers help altruistically. Generally, generalizations are not valid.

ive noticed that with beggars some beggers get more simply because they are more charming or pleasing or good looking, or more decent than the others...while the others may be more in need..or handicapped. also people help so that one day they hope god will bless them after back...karma...self centered

Nice thoughts. The problem starts when Mr. "I" plays the lead role instead of "We". More and more I's lead to eye problems. Thanks for the lovely video.
people don't become ministers to help people

The talk given DIRECTLY supports Maslow's HoN, so arguing with me on my remarks is quite ridiculous.
I love TED talks, but it is humorous to see how many thumbs down someone can get if a comment is issued that is in any way negative. Get a grip people, just because they are in TED doesn't mean they are the best or brightest, merely that they have an interesting take on something.
