Are animal tests the best way of ensuring new medicines are safe before being tried in humans? They are currently required by law, but our regulations are 40 years old! Safer Medicines features experts discussing the latest human biology-based technologies, and asks whether the time has come to compare them with animal tests.

all those new technologies, with the exception of microdosing, are all in-vitro testing. They are not as reliable as in-vivo tests, like animal testing. Microdosing has its own problems as well, just like animal testing. This is why we need a combination of all those technologies to get the best result. I'm not saying animal testing is the only solution, i'm saying each technology has its own pros and cons, and a combination of them will give us the best testing result.
