Just stop riding the bike and it will turn off by itself in a few minutes. The clock remains on all the time. Not really an issue as the battery can last years.

Yes, there's a sensor hooked up to the fork and a small magnet attached to the whell.

the magnet that goes on the spoke has to be placed exactly where the book says or the speed will be way off.
