The 2010 Academy Award nominations were announced this morning. Avatar and The Hurt Locker lead the pack with nine nominations each. Does this surprise you? For the first time in more than 60 years, the Oscars will feature ten best picture contenders instead of the usual five. Do you like this idea? Which movie should win Best Picture?

  • Can't believe that "Moon" didn't get a single nomination anywhere. This shows how far the people from the Oscars have their heads up their asses.

  • Avatar was good but it wasnt THAT good. it was no better than terminator, or the matrix or movies like that. I mean C'mon it was a glorified sci fi version of pocahontus.

  • I put Avatar just below "Meet the Fockers"

  • Thats cause AVATAR really really sucked.

  • i just watched oscar 2010 & i felt it iwas the worst award distribuition bcoz Avthar did not win best direction & best picture,,, FUCK OSCAR 2010

  • AVATAR 4 BEST PIC!!!!!!!! is got more power of the people!!!!!! and if avatar dosen't win the best pic i hope prescious does:D

  • Well I can understand that - we all have opinions.

  • @EricandDish I definitely agree. This must be Meryl's year.

  • Of course Avatar got a best picture nom. When the box office overflows after a couple billion the voters are there to catch what spills out.

Though, to be fair, the visuals were great. I think that when people get emotional about movies they forget that there's more to a movie than visuals and a story. We can see that in both the Hurt Locker and Avatar. I don't care which one wins. Unless an Avatar win will kill Bigelow's career the award means nothing. BTW-I haven't seen the Hurt Locker. :(

  • @mynameisiansmum I agree about 2001. While I was watching Avatar, I was actually a bit distracted by the 3D (the slight fuzziness, and it strained my eyes) and I firmly believe the movie would be spectacular even without 3D.

  • Trust me, I can appreciate your point - my favourite film is Kubrick's 2001, and that was a landmark in visual effects at the time of it's release... but the main problem with Avatar is that it actually RELIES on visual effects - if it wasn't 3D, it wouldn't be anything special.
