Grand Canyon Music Festival's
Native American Composer Apprentice Project
HONORED BY
FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA AT THE WHITE HOUSE
Chosen from a pool of more than 471 nominations and 50 finalists, the Native American Composer Apprentice Project was one of 12 after-school and out-of-school programs across the country to receive the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, which is the highest honor such programs can receive in the United States.
Recognized for its effectiveness in developing learning and life skills in young people, NACAP engages Native youth in a rigorous program in music composition, where students study with professional composers and ensembles, traversing the entire compositional journey, from inspiration, to notation, performance, and recording of their own original works.
I remember this piece being played FASTER! :) I was part of this program in 2007 and in 2008. Rodney composed this in 2007. GOOD MEMORIES!
