The first version of the Verizon Home Phone Connect was a pretty successful product. Using a wireless connection to replace a standard wired phone line, the Home Phone Connect opens up some interesting capabilities for your home phone -- and at a monthly cost less than a standard wired phone line. In this video, Wirefly's Bob Kovacs opens the box of the new Verizon Home Phone Connect to show what comes in the box.

@Bob weeelll, someone is going to have to create our ideas. Look at how far we are already. I like to travel with my laptop. Broadband card is internet without the wifi. Just some wishful thinking. Who knows this idea just might be in progress:)

@TheDivaFlava There are devices out there called "MiFi" that take a cellular connection and make it a WiFi hotspot. I think all the carriers have at least one version of a MiFi. Also, many high-end cell phones have WiFi hotspot capability, which lets the phone function as a WiFi hotspot. I use that all the time myself, and it works great.

@TheDivaFlava Ahh... there's the rub. As it is right now, the Home Phone Connect is a voice-only product that uses little network bandwidth and has a low monthly cost. As soon as you add data, you're in a different ballpark for monthly costs.

I have the first version. Wjat I like most is you can travel with it & plug in phone line as if ur at home. Make & receive calls. It's really cool if you only have limited cell phone minutes. Easy to pack & take with you. Unlimited US long distance calling, call waiting, 3-way, speed dial & voice mail. And also good if electricity goes out you can still use BUT ONLY if its not a cordless. Cordless needs electricity.

@TheDivaFlava Yes, the ability to take your home number with you is an excellent benefit of the Home Phone Connect. People who have weekend homes or who spend a month at the beach every year (or something similar) really appreciate the HPC. Now... if only it would work with fax machines. I still have to fax now and then.
