from what most believe its the rear fender being cut short that makes a bobber, the word "bobber" encompasses a whole variety. the era that bobbers came from and staying true to that era the spring solo seat & ridged frame (hardtail) play a huge role in what most consider to be a bobber...but anything soft tail i personally do not consider to be a bobber and most people would agree that the spring seat being removed along with the addition of an extreme rake falls into the "chopper" category
