Beautiful Rain is my first composition on Chapman Stick, written and recorded in one afternoon.
This is the first time that I have combined creative writing with a piece of music. You could call it text to music. I like to think of it as a mind painting with music. The text and the music are complementary to one another, as you read the text listen to the music and allow yourself to visualise images or a scene.
"As the beautiful rain kisses your sweet lips and runs through your soft hair, I loose myself in the beauty of the moment.
As it runs from your smooth skin and flows into the ground beneath us, it purifies the earth and all life.
It cleans and nourishes the plants, the animals, our spirits and everything it touches.
It falls so fast I can barely see the horizon in the distance, just a single female figure stood before me, engulfed by an aquatic aura that seems almost other worldly, yet at the same time so natural and pure.
The skies have opened and it has rained many times since we came into existence, however I doubt it has ever looked as beautiful as it does to me now."
What is a mind painting? A mind painting can evoke feelings, emotions, thoughts and sensations, just as a visible painting would do, only that you paint the picture in your mind as you read the text, rather than see a completed physical picture with your eyes. It's like a visualization exercise, try reading it a few times through and see if the imagery becomes clearer or more detailed each time. I may have composed the music and written the words, but it is you the listener/reader that paints the picture within your mind.
Beautiful Rain is the first piece of music I have ever composed on Chapman Stick, and it was written and recorded in one afternoon. I hadn't slept the night before, so I was exhausted and in a dreamy state of mind. It was actually raining outside when I wrote and recorded it, which is what initially inspired me to write this piece.
The music was written and recorded on the 22/09/2006 in the afternoon, and the mind painting was written the next day in the evening.

I plan to record a video of a more structured version of this piece soon, along with many other pieces I have written on various instruments.
I use Deep Matched Reciprocal tuning on my Stick, and the pickup is a PASV-4.
Thank you all for your comments so far, I hope to have many more videos on the way soon...

I am aware that this video is quite repetitive, it was initially conceived as an experimental piece. The concept is that as you listen to the music, you read the accompanying text and visualise/imagine scenes, images, emotions etc.
You can hear a more structured audio only recording of this piece on my myspace page (see video description for URL!)
