I have been doing First Ascents again. "King Kong" is a sick techy arete at a new area called the White Kong down south of Markleeville on Hwy 4. This is one of the best new problems in Tahoe. You can see the boulders from the road. The rock is a really sticky volcanic that climbs just like Joe's Valley sandstone. The movement is so cool. This line is one of the best, but I could not grade it. It's in the V6 to V9 range though. I have done this problem 5 times already; it is so much fun! I spent hours constructing a bomber landing. Many thanks to David Outcalt and Frank Lucido for their continued development of the Tahoe bouldering scene. White Kong is a worthy new addition for locals.
