@TheWordOfLife1 this would be great if it were academic, but unfortunately this topic involves my freedoms and those of future generations. I think Texas was on the right path, ban Marriage altogether and only allow Civil Unions to be recognised through law in its place. That way the bible thumpers can have marriage and it won't impinge on anyone elses freedoms :).

@TheWordOfLife1 You know, except for the fact that the marriage is ALSO a secular institution and the government isn't allowed to discriminate. Sure, any private institution (i.e. a church) can disallow their services to virtually whoever they choose, but that's not what the issue is. I think I remember a certain time when there were "separate but equal" institutions in place for African Americans, but we got rid of THAT.

Well, marriage from it's origins (in the Bible) is a God ordained union between a man and a woman, so gay marriage isn't even possible in the first place. I don't have anything against civil unions, but why would gays want to take advantage of Biblical traditions? I believe Elton John had a quote furthering my point. Yeah, ELTON JOHN.
