This is part 1 of the championship match of the 1982 Miller High Life Open featuring Earl Anthony, hot off his 268-232 victory over Jeff Mattingly vs. #1 qualifer, Frank Ellenburg. Earl was as dominant and determined as I've ever seen him. Hope you enjoy the action.

  • Frank Ellenburg the Randy Johnson of bowling

  • How did I miss Frank Ellenburg??? One of the most exceptional techniques in the game! Thanks a million for posting this obscure piece of history. You've sparked enough interest with this video to make me pursue more knowledge about this extraordinary talent, Frank Ellenburg. Btw, no this isn't Frank.

  • is it just me or does ellenburg have a weight hole on the wrong side of the ball? I know they had different rules back then but I don't think I've ever seen that before.

  • Frank doesn't look 6'5, he looks more like 6'11!

  • I loved Earl even as a little kid in the 70's. I knew he was hardcore!

  • he was the most accurate and consistent bowler of his time and i think that he is argueably the most accurate and consistent to date.

i wonder how powerful he would be now people would be frightened of taking him on

  • interesting side note....ellenburg hates lefties

  • Geez Earl's ball is such a plow. Amazing considering the equipment he had to work with.

  • When i was younger i went to a bowling camp called PBC (i think) 3 years in a row. Frank Ellenburgh was one of the teachers and he also lived in the same city as i do.

He is a really great guy and was always happy to help. Heck he even gave me a Ebonite Nitro for free.

    Ahh the good ol' days.

  • I remember meeting and talking with Earl Anthony in Tucson...one of the highlights of my young life
