What you see here in this video is an extraordinary yet controversial design by Bob Bourke. Although the Studebaker Starlight Coupe was produced in 1949, that year critics were saying it looked like it was the same, coming or going. So, a major facelift took place for the model year of 1950. The major facelift design was the bullet nose that is capped by an airplane theme jet intake. The airplane theme mimicks the famous 1949 Ford's grille. The most outstanding feature of the Starlight Coupe beside the bullet nose is the curved five piece rear window which was an outstanding glass production feat in 1950. Note the sunvisor mounted over the front windshield. This coupe body was mounted on a 120 inch wheelbase and had power from an engine that produced 102 bhp. An improvement for all 1950 models was the replacement of archaic single transverse leaf suspension with front coil springs. If you ordered an automatic transmission for your Stude it had the "hill holder" feature, a feature developed by Studebaker in the 1930's. Rivaling the Big Three automakers in price, a Starlight Coupe was priced around $1,400. Studebaker broke sales records this year by selling over 320,000 cars - quite a feat for an independent car manufacturer. Though the design of this car was different, if you look at this car's design objectively, I think you will agree that this car doesn't look that bad at all.

  • @canthill3 Sorry, this is not mine to sell. My YouTube channel has downloads of all kinds of trucks and cars and this is one of them.

  • Oh I love these cars one of my favorite parts about these cars is the rear window its too bad studebaker went under in 1968 because they were not selling enough cars.

  • @mrdestoryit There were several cars that had a 3-piece rear window but it just looks so good with this bullet nose. Yes, Studebaker went under along with so many other great car names. I miss them all. Thanks so much for enjoying this Stude.

  • @200pramsey After all these years, this model year of Studebaker looks pretty cool. I remember a grade school teacher had one of these in pale yellow with fender bashes everywhere. Us kids would constantly making fun of it. But this one here is a work of art. And perhaps they were ahead of their time. I appreciate your comment and thanks for viewing this Starlight Coupe.

  • when i lived in pa there was a restaraunt called studebakers, they had a car show everyyear i remem, ber being a lil kid and my dad saying that studebakers were ahead of their time of course being a kid i just wanted to see some obnoxious car with flames, but now man arent these cars stunning

  • @JeffDeWitt Good point................I guess. I don't think I mentioned anything about the Studebaker Motor Co., so I guess you were just making an informative comment. And I take it you're from the south by calling the American Civil War the War of Northern Aggression?

  • That so called "Studebaker Motor Company" has absolutely nothing to do with the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend that built this bullet nose (along with Hawks, Avantis, Commanders, Presidents, Champ trucks, Transtar trucks... and ammo wagons for the Union Army in the War of Northern Aggression.
