How is that surprising? This is from 1981; 22 years before the first film and 3 more years before he was added to the ride. Still a great ride, even with all the political correctness and "synergy".

The haunted mansion is my favorite ride at both parks. The first 30 seconds of the haunted mansion part of this bids gives me the goosebumps

One difference between this video and the VHS copy of this video was that the ballroom music in the haunted mansion was completely different... I wonder why...
