@mitsutube68 thats why the maliu gets bad rep too

@1997FordProbeGT they do have the 3.5 magnum badges on some of the intrepids. I think the r/t and sxt had the badges on them. They are magnum engines. I own the Es with 234 hp instead of the 250 the High output the r/t and sxt have. If you look online I bet you can find pictures of the cars with the 3.5 Magnum badge on the back of the trunk

@Diadematov Or you could just convert it to V8 and RWD... I just finished converting my 99 Intrepid to a 5.2 Magnum/46RH/8.25 combo. There is a 360 sitting in the corner of the shop that is destined for this car that should spin the rollers past 500rwhp. I've got a whopping $500 in this swap as far as parts are concerned and a couple of days worth of fab work. ;)

If you want a fast sedan, look into 97-2004 Buick regal GS's or Pontiac Grand Prix GTP's. The aftermarket is huge and they are already faster than the 3.5L in stock form. Super responsive to mods, exhaust work alone will bring you easily over 300lb-ft of torque and close to 300hp, then smaller pulley for supercharger, pcm tune, etc, and you're over 300hp easily and have spent 1-2 thousand. ;)

@1997FordProbeGT maybe for this car but they do put a 3.5L Magnum in the Intrepid R/T version
-
@chaucy9 yes the intrepid R/T has a 3.5 magnum in it,I have a 99 chystler r/t but ppl just dont seem to unterstand.

The R/T and SXT Intrepids have a 3.5 "Magnum" engine. It even has a chrome emblem that says "3.5 MAGNUM." Of course they're not the same Magnums as the older Dodges have but still technically t's a Magnum.
Man I so wanna get this swap done. The thing is my 2.7 only has 34,000 on it so far. Suprisingly is very fast too so I'd like to see how this car would move with the 3.5 :)

Hey all, sorry I took so long to see all the comments on this. There was absolutely nothing wrong the 2.7 I had removed from this car. The 2.7 had 187,000 miles on it and still running strong. When it was removed, I replaced the timing chain and water pump so I could put the 2.7 in another trep with a bad motor. I tell you what, that 2.7 was spotlessly clean inside! No sludge whatsoever! In my opinion, the 2.7's get a bad rap because people dont take care of them, like oil changes! cont..

The reason I put a 3.5 HO in this car is because I wanted to know what the performance gain felt like. It's pretty substantial! The cost to have it done was around 3 grand, though. That was labor, motor, parts, everything. I could of done it myself but I was at the time swammped with other work going on. And yes, I kept the 2.7 transmission.

Cool man, that looks promising. I would really love to drop a 3.5 in my trep too. I'll look into it when I have the money to spare. Right now my 2.7 only has 34,000 on it and its from 2000. Got lucky and bought it from Tony Hyndai. They got the vehicle on trade in from an old Japanese couple who rarely drove the car. :)

Wow that is super low milage! Just use synthetic in that engine and it will last a long long time! Change the main chain and the water pump at 100K and keep going.

I just got the same wheels for my 02 intrepid and im looking for tires. Do you have a clearance issue with yours? If not what kind of tires did you have?
Pdubb1990 3 years ago
The only time there is an issue is when I have people sitting in the back and go over a bump. I have a fender roller to take care of the problem. It just barely rubs the edge of the tire. It may also depend on which brand tire you get. Ive heard of people having no issues at all. There is no issue in the front.
