Apr 21, 2008. bodyweight 143lbs. getting heavier.

1RM, sumo, 460lbs.

This was my 6th deadlift set, and my 4th work set. My previous high was 455, and shitty. A lot of hitching and bad back flexion. This one felt much better, and much faster. I snorted ammonia for the first time before this lift. It seemed to help. I was hyped up by the burning sensation in my face, and the death metal. Overall, a very good feeling.

My first powerlifting meet is on May 3rd. I'm gonna train light until then, and shoot for 480 for my 3rd deadlift.

Looking at it now, I hyperextended unnecessarily. Seems like a habit I can break, though. I don't always do it, but I was trying to make sure I locked out in the knees and in the hips as well. My ass was clenched so hard it probably could have cast a diamond.

  • Yeah when I'm closer to 400 I have my hips into it more. I wasn't really thinking it through then. Thanks, though, I'll continue to keep that in mind.

  • Big fan of your work, actually; though if I were in your place, I would have extended my legs a little later and kept my shoulders further back. Personally, I use my hips to get the weight off the ground, then extend my legs and pull with my back at the same time.

    Great job, however.

    PS. Sniffing ammonia?

  • a good lift unmberwise, sure, but-

    you are doing a stiff leg deadlift using only your back.

    lower and push back your butt a little and

    use hips and thighs too...you'll do more
