It's most likely a hydraulic lash adjuster. I'm about to reach mine. Hopefully this helps.

Ok here's a couple test. First is louder when cold or hot? Bearings and journals get worse as they get hot. Piston gets better when hot. Then. Pull the E-brake and put it into first. Lightly let the clutch out. If it gets worse it's bottom end. You can also kill cylinders to isolate it. If pulling a plug or shutting off an injector effects it it's either rod, piston or rod bearing. If goes away with a light load on such as the e brake one. And canceling cylinders doesn't help it's most likely

my 95 mark viii is doing the same thing. been doing it for a year. I'm thinking it's the lash adjusters. anybody?

you guys are tards who think its a rod. its something in the valvetrain. i have this sound and if you knew about cars rod know is inconsistant. and on mine the sound is hand in hand with my exhaust pulses.

MY 96 DOES THE SAM EXACT NOISE AND ITS ALSO LEAKING WATER FROM THE TIMING COVER RIGHT UNDER THE ALTERNATOR I HAVE MY SUSPICIONS ON THE TIMING BUT NOT TO SURE AN IDEAS ANY BODY HERS THE LINK TO DA VID

Im having the exact same problem/sound, myne isnt that ba when you first start it up, but after it warms up to normal op' temp its just like this. I also had a sparkplug get flattened on the driverside head, number 7 cylinder i think. Anybody have any ideas? so i know how much to save up to fix it?lol
