Most indeed! For without proper constitution, mental clarity, inspiration, and development and sharpening of my character the art would be a gateway to the superficial. Without philosophy and a positive world perspective, the individual training will be nothing more than a trained brute. Ethics and training, morality and goals they should all merge. Baguazhang is no haven for punks, not real BGZ :).
My sifu Thomas Senora of Ho Kuen Ng's system from Taipei, Taiwan often taught me low postures. As a result my legs became enormously strong! My calves were the size of most people's lower thigh! The force that I employed was so strong that I moved a few inches in on an opponent and put him through a wall! I am not kidding! Baguazhang is an amazing and dangerous system if you understand the fighting methods and the emphasis on energy.
chi flow and blood flow go hand in hand, the quickest way to improve blood flow is to build the leg since they are an easily built part of the circuit in TCM and act as auxiliary pumps in western medicines. root aside it it still has a positive impact on chi flow. beyond that it has impact on mental faculties such as focus and discipline since it forces you to deal with difficult training and improves your root mentally as well as physically
I have to say Sifu Her is a well rounded bagua instructor, If you like to train real gung fu you have to study with someone like this. otherwise you gain only flower fist and weak gung fu... study the history of bagua and you will understand the reason for this method of training. case in point coal mainer MA.
Mix and Bagualinc are correct. I guarantee this guy has a deep root. In bagua you can have your spine tilted forward and still be rooted. That's why bagua guys have such a great range of motion and can throw or strike from so many different positions. He may push out a little bit but this type of training is very hard to do and I one could not take more than a few steps and be wiped out if he is using proper alignment and internal principles.
Ok here i am. I am not making negative comments. I am merely stating fact. Bagua is an internal martial art and requires very little physical strength. Over time your physical strength is developed slowly over 7 years. I know my subject matter, yet I am merely a student.
It could be more beneficial to research your subject prior to making negative comments. The low stance being demonstrated is one part of circle walking training. Please don't judge a persons level of training or correctness of training by a 51 second clip of a small portion of their training.
This stepping method is more of a training excercise. You're not gonna be doing this during a fight.

Frankly doing exercise that develops muscle does not mean that you are not practicing internal principles and Id say this guys kung fu is very good.
