Now known as the Bank of New York Mellon, here's how Stan Freberg sold Mellon Bank Credit Cards back in the 1960s. How nice it is to take a piece of plastic and flash it whenever you want to purchase something, on type of an 'honor' system?!? They actually trust that you would pay them back, little by little, competing with their ever increasing interest rates?? It in effect could take years, or forever to pay back a credit card, but this commercial is far too entertaining to address those kinda issues within its 0:60 second time frame...

There once was a time when there was a certain thing called trust between the bank and it's customers...back when banks treated it's customers as people instead of as just another account number.
But as you mentioned the commercial was designed to be entertaining, not fact specific.
