Wow - the first time played this I was a freshman in highschool. My director had me had me read several articles on how to perform this to give the audience a certain 'feel' for this solo. It would have been great to have a recording of your performance 15 years ago when I performed it the first time - great model to learn from :-)

My Band director played this piece today in class over the speakers.
And the piccolo solo came on...
Everyone's eyes shifted to the piccolo player in the front of the arcs (me).
one kid said, "Hey, Madelyn, you think you can play that?"
I replied... "In a few years. Maybe ten." xD
i'm a freshman.

@shelbie1982 Hi Shelbie, I started learning that solo about 55 years ago and I figure that I will never give a perfect performance, but I keep trying. I hope that I live long enough to eventually play it with total precision and joy.

Fellow picc player here, kudos for nice tuning. That's probably the most frustrating part of playing the piccolo...it's so hard to get it to stay in tune when you play that screeching high all the time.

The flute section in my band at my school has to play that...It's hard.
He did a very good job compared to the people I've heard play it.
